تدور أحداث الفيلم في إطار مغامرة درامية في الصحراء العربية عام 1916 خلال فترة الحكم العثماني في مطلع الثورة العربية الكبرى. يتناول الفيلم قصة الفتى البدوي ذيب وشقيقه حسين اللذين يتركان قبيلتهما في رحلة محفوفة بالمخاطر، حين يقوم ضابطٌ في الجيش البريطاني ودليل لهُ بزيارة القبيلة في مهمةٍ غامضة. خوفاً على سمعة والده الراحل، يوافق حسين على مرافقة الضابط ودليله إلى بئر على طريق الحُجّاج القديم إلى مكة المكرمة، حيث تعتمد نجاة ذيب من هذه المخاطر على تعلّم مبادئ الرجولة والثقة ومواجهة الخيانة.
رشح الأردن فيلم “ذيب” لجائزة الأوسكار لسنة 2016 وتم اختياره من ضمن خمسة أفلام لأفضل فيلم أجنبي. حاز الفيلم عدة جوائز عالمية هامة منها: جائزة أفضل مخرج في مسابقة “آفاق جديدة” في مهرجان البندقية السينمائي وجائزة أفضل فيلم من العالم العربي وجائزة “FIPRESCI” لأفضل فيلم روائي طويل في مهرجان أبوظبي السينمائي وجائزة أفضل تصوير في مهرجان القاهرة الدولي.
The film revolves around a dramatic adventure in the Arabian desert back in 1916, under the Ottoman rule and at the beginning of the Great Arab Revolt. It tells the story of the Bedouin boy Theeb and his brother, Hussein, who left their tribes to go on a risky journey. Their lives are completely changed with the arrival of a British army officer and his guide on a mysterious mission. Out of fear of dishonoring his late father’s reputation, Hussein agrees to escort the pair to their destination to a water-well on the old pilgrimage route to Mecca, where Theeb’s survival depends on learning the principles of manhood, confidence and facing betrayal and treason.
Jordan has nominated Theeb for the Academy Awards 2016, and has been selected among the best 5 foreign films. The film has received several prestigious awards including: Best Director Award at Venice Film Festival in “Horizons” section, Best Film from the Arab World Award and the FIPRESCI Award for Best Narrative Film at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival and Best Cinematography at Cairo Film Festival.
