Editor’s Picks | Film Screening: Saken

From this week’s cultural events in Amman, 7iber recommends the film Screening: «Saken», which will be followed by a discussion with the Jordanian director Sandra Madi.

Saken is an observational documentary directed by Sandra Madi (2014) and set in Jordan. It follows the friendship between Ibrahim, a Palestinian PLO fighter who was injured in Lebanon while on duty before the 1982 Israeli invasion, leading to his paralysis, and Walid, an Egyptian man who has been Ibrahim’s companion and caretaker for the past 15 years.

The film is in Arabic, with English subtitles provided. The screening is at the main building of Darat Al Funun (Tuesday, 6:30 pm).

Greek film: Eternity and a Day, directed by Theodorros Angelopoulos, 1998. This film critically acclaimed film, which won nine awards, tells the story of Alexander, a famous author nearing the end of his life. He rescues an Albanian boy on the street and takes off on a journey with him. Tuesday, 6:30PM, at the Shoman Foundation. (127 min, Greek language with Arabic subtitles).
