Events in Amman, March 20 – 26

الأحد 20 آذار 2011

This week the International Women’s Day festival continues at Al-Balad theater with a special one-person play by Lana Nasser, in which she contemplates the predicament of her gender, imposed and acquired identities, and explores herself in language, culture, and the media. The festival also includes a theater workshop titled “Unfolding Stories” led by Dr. Fadi Skeiker, in which he introduces action theatre, bio-mechanic and physical theatre as tools to improvise stories with the participants.

7iber hosts two events this week: the 3rd Hashtag Debates, this time on the constitution and constitutional monarchy, on Wednesday, and the second meeting of Inkitab, 7iber’s book club, on Thursday, discussing Ghaleb Halassa’s Sultana.

Kitabi Kitabak (my book, your book) initiative is hosting Palestinian musician Rym Banna and Lebanese poet Zahi Wehbe in a special evening of poetry and music on Thursday, to fundraise for public libraries in refugee camps and underprivileged neighborhoods.

There’s a lot more on this week’s agenda: interesting talks at Cervantes and at Shoman, screenings of international films, new exhibition openings, jazz nights at Canvas, Bayt Al-Ruwwad, and more.

And while you’re planning your week, don’t forget to turn off the lights for one hour on Saturday at 8:30 pm for Earth Hour.

7iber’s calendar is compiled in collaboration with Waw Al-Balad magazine.
