Have Your Say: Gaza, One Year On

Today is the one-year anniversary of the attacks on Gaza. For us at 7iber, we were hosting a discussion-workshop on the uses of social networking for political, business, and social uses. As if it was yesterday, I remember one of the participants receiving a phone call, looking shocked, and apologizing that he had to leave.
“They hit Gaza,” he said.

One year later, that sentence still echoes in my head. After visiting Gaza and seeing the situation first hand, its difficult to imagine the pain and suffering of our fellow humans in Gaza.

What is your take? What responsibility does the international community have in brokering a solution? What role should Jordan play? Egypt? The United Nations? Some argue, the international community should engage Hamas, while Israel and the U.S. refuse.

اليوم يصادف مرور سنة على بدء العدوان الإسرائيلي على غزة. نحن في حبر كنا في هذا الوقت من العام الماضي في خضم ورشة عمل عن استعمالات الإعلام الاجتماعي في القضايا السياسية والمجتمعية والأعمال. وأتذكر وكأنه يوم أمس عندما تلقى أحد المشاركين مكالمة هاتفية وبدا مصدوما واعتذر بأنه مضطر أن يخرج قائلا “لقد ضربوا غزة.”

بعد مرور عام، لا يزال صدى تلك الجملة في ذهني. بعد أن زرت غزة ورأيت الوضع هناك بأم عيني، من الصعب أن أتخيل مقدار الألم والمعاناة التي يمر بها الناس هناك.

ما هو موقفك؟ ما هي مسؤولية المجتمع الدولي في التوصل إلى حل؟ ما الدور الذي يمكن أن تلعبه الأردن؟ مصر؟ والأمم المتحدة؟ البعض يقول أن على المجتمع الدولي التفاوض مع حماس، في حين ترفض الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل ذلك.
