Events in Amman, November 7 – 13, 2010

الأحد 07 تشرين الثاني 2010

This week the Goethe Institut and the Royal Film Commission offer an insight into films made by the DEFA – the national film studio of the German Democratic Republic, with three days of screenings.

A live exhibition project, curated by Abdellah Karroum from Morocco, kicks off on Saturday with Darat al-Funun as a hub for its activities, encompassing several interventions around the city, as well as a conference organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Art and Design, University of Jordan, on art practices and vocabulary. It brings together an exciting group of artists and contributors from Jordan and abroad.

The Jordan International Theater Festival continues this week until Thursday. Two of Jordan’s most interesting emerging directors have plays showing Sunday and Monday; Mohammad Bani Hani with “Two Loners Waiting” and Khalil Nuseirat with “Cave Dwellers”. One of the festival’s most well-received plays so far was the Iraqi “Camp”, so if you missed it last week you have a chance to catch it in Zarqa on Wednesday.  There’s “Light Sky” from Switzerland, set in Ramallah in the time of curfew. The program also includes plays from Italy, Canada, Tunisia, and Finland, with evaluation seminars of every play the next morning.

We have plenty more; Stand up comedy by Nemr Abu Nassar this Thursday and Friday, Ideas Festival this weekend as Zara, a guitar concert by Vincenzo Martinelli tonight at Al-Balad Theater, and a concert by the Amman Symphony Orchestra this Wednesday featuring pieces by Tchaikovsky, Franz Liszt, and Antonin Dvorak. New exhibitions, more films, interesting talks, and more. Read on for details.

7iber’s calendar is compiled in collaboration with Waw al-Balad Magazine.
