Events in Amman, May 15 – 21

الأحد 15 أيار 2011

This week Dar Al-Anda hosts a series of events in commemoration of the 63rd anniversary of Al-Nakbeh, starting with a joint poetry and music performance tonight by Najwan Darwish and Zina Asfour and an exhibition of works by Naji Al-Ali, to film screenings, readings, and a performance by Al-Hannouneh group for folklore.

Combining storytelling, photo-art, and movement, “Live from the Dead Sea” is a performance taking place at Al-Balad theater on Tuesday, in which artists Lana Nasser (Jordan) and Kristof Persyn (Netherlands) examine the question “If the Dead Sea could speak, what would it say?”, and create a new mythology that serves as an ecological awareness campaign.

This week’s calendar also includes a number of film screenings: German and Jordanian animated shorts, and Belgian, French, and Italian features. You have some great live music options, with Macadi Nahhas performing at Souk Jara, Tareq Abu Kwaik/El Far3i, performing at Al-Balad theater, the Amman Symphony Orchestra, and of course Amman’s weekly concert of classical Arabic music by Bayt Al-Ruwwad.

In other highlights, 7iber is organizing a Hashtag Debate on Saturday, details will be announced very soon so stay tuned. We also have our monthly Inkitab book club meeting on Tuesday, discussing a book about a Syrian’s experience as a political prisoner.

Read on for details on these events and more.
