From this week’s cultural events in Amman, 7iber recommends “A Night of Music” by Quadro Nuevo band.

Quadro Nuevo is Europe’s answer to the Argentine tango. Arabesques, Balkan swing, ballads, daredevil improvisations, the melodies of old Europe and the lightness of the Mediterranean merge into fabulous songs full of joyous colour.

Mixing between Jazz and balkan music, you will be able to enjoy a night of light, yet interesting music, with Dietmar Lowka on the contrabass, Andreas Hinterseher on the accordion, Evelyn Huber on the harp and Andreas Franzl on the saxophone and clarinet.

– Italian film: “Mia madre”
Margherita, a director in the middle of an existential crisis, has to deal with the inevitable and still unacceptable loss of her mother. Director Nanni Moretti tells a heart-wrenching story without using overly dramatic tones, and builds around it other story lines, which all share the theme of people coming to terms with reality. (106 min, Italian language with Arabic and English subtitles). (Tuesday, 6:30 PM) at Shoman foundation.

– Exhibition: Lawrence of Arabia: Myth, War and Reality, seen through the lens of cinema and photography.
A group exhibition that explores modern day Middle-Eastern identity in relation to the Lawrence of Arabia myth as created by cinema and photography. Using archival material found in Jordan, this show explores, confuses and questions the myths that surround T.E. Lawrence and the Arab revolt to create a psychedelic collage of colour, content and meanings. The works have been produced by local artists and visiting British artist Tom Hunter, through a series of ongoing workshops. (Opening: Saturday 6:30, till  27 November).
