فيلم وثائقي عن حياة عائلة فلسطينية في رام الله وعن التجربة المريرة للفلسطينيين الذين يتمكنون من الهجرة.
مريم شابة محافظة من قرية بسيطة تتعرف على بسام الذي عاد لتوه إلى رام الله من منفاه في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. يأمل العثور على زوجة لتهتم به وببيته في وحدته. بعد عقد قرانهما تندلع الإنتفاضة وتنحصر مريم برفقة زوجة أخ بسام في بيت أمه. تحاول مريم جاهدة الوصول إلى القنصلية الأمريكية في القدس للحصول على تأشيرة سفر لملاقاة زوجها مجددا. وفي هذه الأثناء، تواصل النساء حياتهن العادية فيما يتواصل قصف المباني المجاورة.

“A Wedding in Ramallah”

It is an intimate documentary portrait of a Palestinian family life in the West Bank town of Ramallah and the experiences of Palestinians who manage to emigrate overseas.
Mariam, with a traditional village upbringing, is introduced to Bassam who has returned from exile in America to find a ‘home-made’ bride. Soon after their wedding, a new intifada breaks out and she is stuck, along with a similarly stranded sister-in-law, at their mother-in-law’s house in the middle of a war zone. Mariam repeatedly travels through Israeli roadblocks to the US consulate in Jerusalem to progress her visa application. Once back home in Ramallah, things are strangely normal: the women gossip and cook while buildings, only blocks away, are shelled.

Sherine Salama
Sherine was born in Cairo to an Egyptian father and a Palestinian mother. She moved to Australia with her family when she was three. The idea of her film “A Wedding in Ramallah” arose in 1996 when Sherine spent nine months in the Palestinian Territories training Palestinian television journalists. Over the past 12 years she has travelled and worked throughout the Middle East. From 1989 till 1991 she was based in Cairo, where she worked as a freelance journalist. She also worked as a news and current affairs reporter for ABC-TV from 1993 till 1995. She received the United Nations Media Peace Prize for a report detailing the rape experiences of Bosnian women. Sherine Salama directed her last film “Australia Has No Winter” in 1999, an award-winning documentary which followed a refugee family from Belgrade to Melbourne and chronicled their settlement experience.

شيرين سلامة
ولدت شيرين سلامة من أب مصري وأم فلسطينية في القاهرة وفي الثالثة من عمرها انتقلت إلى استراليا مع عائلتها. جاءت فكرة فيلمها “عرس في رام الله” في عام 1996 حين اقامت شيرين في الضفة الغربية لمدة 9 شهور لتدريب مجموعة من الصحافيين الفلسطينيين. في السنوات الاثنتي عشر الماضية، عملت في الشرق الأوسط حيث كانت صحافية في القاهرة (1989- 1991). وعملت أيضا في تلفزيون ABC(1993- 1995) حيث حصلت على جائزة الأمم المتحدة لإعلام السلام لتقرير حول اغتصاب النساء في البوسنة. اخرجت شيرين سلامة فيلمها الأخير “لا شتاء في أستراليا” عام 1999 والذي حاز على عدة جوائز ويوثق قصة عائلة من بلغراد لجأت إلى ميلبورن.
